Fins Up or Fins Down? Week 8 Recap of the Dolphins 31-17 VICTORY over the Patriots

Break out your brooms Dolphins fans, the Miami Dolphins have swept the New England Patriots for the second time in 3 years as Tua Tagovailoa moves to 6-0 against Bill Belichick and the team moves to 6-2 on the season. For our week 8 recap, we will once again be addressing some players who are playing well by designating them as Fins Up (Player playing well) or Fins Down (Player not playing well).

Fins Up - Jalen Ramsey

  • This one is pretty easy right? Ramsey beat every deadline thrown his way and returned from his knee injury after just 94 days with a spectacular first performance as a Miami Dolphin. Ramsey had an interception and forced fumble while only allowing one pass to be completed on him. Not too bad for a guy that Twitter doctors thought wouldn't be able to return this season huh?
Fins Down - Offensive Line Injuries
  • Miami came into this game with 3 starters down on the left side and left the game with 4 starters down and only Austin Jackson standing. Heck at one point Miami was on left tackle #3 with Kion Smith in the game for Kendall Lamm. Miami approached a dire situation on the offensive line but thankfully Miami SHOULD get Terron Armstead and Connor Williams back this week, right? Armstead is eligible to return off IR and Connor was healthy enough to dress but not start. With a game as important as this one upcoming in Germany against the Chiefs, you have to think Miami will roll out their big guns this week.
Fins Up - Pass Rush
  • Another week, another strong performance from the pass rush. Bradley Chubb recorded his 5th sack of the season while Christian Wilkins (4.5) and Jaelen Phillips (1.5) each recorded a sack as well. Even more impressive was the Dolphins also hit Mac Jones 7 additional times. The pass rush is really starting to pick up and if they can maintain this, especially with the secondary getting healthy, we might finally get the consistent defense we have been waiting all season for.
Fins Down - Drops, Fumbles, Turnovers
  • There have been too many drops by this Dolphins receiving core over the past few weeks. Jaylen Waddle had 3 drops on balls that should have been caught (I know the one over the middle was behind him) and Tyreek dropped a screen that would've gained good yards. Raheem Mostert fumbled again, 4th time this year, this time on a hand off from Tua (that Tua was credited for). And Tua threw another confusing interception. Miami remained in the negative in turnover differential despite being 6-2 on the season. Imagine if Miami could just cut out all the bone headed plays that they can control?
Fins Up - Chase Claypool
  • Chase Claypool is going to have a big time impact on this offense as he continues to get accumulated. He had 1 catch for 15 yards, where he showed his physicality, but made a few nice blocks in the run and screen game. He has the one thing Miami doesn't have in their receiving core, size, hopefully Mike McDaniel continues to use it to Miami's advantage going forward.

Fins Down - The Running Game
  • This one isn't really surprising thanks to the injuries on the offensive line but still, two weeks in a row and Miami hasn't been able to get the run game going and it wasn't for a lack of trying this week. Miami ran the ball 23 times for only 81 yards (excluding kneel downs). That just isn't going to cut it as we move into the second half of the season. Miami needs to get healthy up front and get De'Von Achane back after the bye week.
Fins Up - Brandon Jones
  • We have to give Brandon his flowers, he played a great game yesterday and should have had an interception if not for a dirty hit by Smith-Schuster. Jones did not fare well in his first start this season against Buffalo but he really had a solid game yesterday for Miami.
