Fins Up or Fins Down? Recapping the Dolphins dominate WIN over the Commanders

Well that was fun! The Dolphins rolled into the nations capital and kicked the Commanders teeth in. Not a lot of negatives can be said from this game but we still have to identify who played well and who struggled!

Fins Up - Tua Tagovailoa

  • Tua was dominant yesterday and while everyone is going to look at the two bombs to Tyreek, it was Tua's movement in the pocket that really cemented his dominant performance yesterday. Tua was a magician in the pocket and when you add that to the play of this offensive line, you have something really scary for the final stretch. And most importantly, 0 turnovers against the Commanders and there weren't any opportunities for one. Just a clean game from Tua. Things you love to see.

Fins Up - Tyreek Hill

  • Duh.

Fins Down - Jaylen Waddle

  • Waddle had a solid day catching 5 passes for 59 yards but it was the drops that really hurt Waddle. He dropped a ball on a scramble drill with no one within 15 yards of him that would have at least been a massive gain if not more and failed to pull in a deep shot by Tua that was actually in a pretty decent spot. Was it a massively bad game? Absolutely not and we all know that Waddle will rebound. In a game like this it is hard to find negatives to talk about but Waddles drops weren't great and needed to be acknowledged.
Fins Up - Andrew Van Ginkel
  • The Ginkster was a man possessed yesterday for the Dolphins recording a sack (That no longer is recorded as a sack for some reason), a pick-six, and almost blocked a punt. Miami needs someone to step up in the absences of Jaelen Phillips and it appears as if Miami is going to be okay.
Fins Up - De'Von Achane
  • Welcome back WR3/RB2. Achane in his first full game back since the Giants game went over 100 total yards of offense and scored two touchdowns. I am going to continue to call Achane WR3 because Miami is using him like one. We saw Achane all over the field yesterday including out wide and I love it.
Fins Up AND Down - Emmanuel Ogbah
  • Ogbah destroyed Andrew Wylie for a sack and then on the very next play got pinned inside allowing Brian Robinson to streak down the sideline for a big gain. This is why Miami brought in JPP. Miami is going to get some flash plays from Ogbah but Miami really needs him to get better on the edge as a run defended if Ogbah is going to see in the field in the base packages.
Fins Down - Injuries
  • I feel like this is becoming a weekly occurrence but we have to talk about injuries again. Terron Armstead left the game with an ankle injury but is apparently fine and could have gone back in. More concerning is Robert Hunt, who re-aggrevated his hamstring injury, and Jerome Baker who is going to miss some time with a knee injury after Brandon Jones collided with him on the sideline.

Fins Up - Kion Smith

  • This is a Kion Smith fan account. Smith played the entire second half for the Dolphins at left tackle and oh my goodness the athleticism just pops off the chart. Is he refined? No. But you can see that the traits are there and there is something here for Miami. I am excited as heck to see what Kion can do after another off-season.
