Fins up or Fins down? Week 7 Recap

The Dolphins are 5-2 after falling on the road to the Philadelphia Eagles 31-17. Instead of doing our normal weekly recap, I wanted to try something new this week and address some players who are playing well by designating them as Fins Up (Player playing well) or  Fins Down (Player not playing well).

Fins Up - David Long and Jerome Baker

  • I was hard on the line backing duo to start the season but David Long and Jerome Bakers had great games against the Eagles. Long, who thankfully is not in concussion protocol this week, had a great game shooting gaps and getting involved in the run game. Jerome Baker played probably his best game all season which eventually led to his second career pick-six. Hopefully this duo can continue to play well as the season progresses because if they do, this defense has a chance to continue to improve.
Fins Down - Christian Wilkins
  • Christian Wilkins was man-handled by the interior of the Eagles offensive line. I get that the Eagles line is one of if not the best in the league, but if you are a guy who held in for a contract that exceeded $20m per season, you need to show up on the biggest games and Wilkins not only didn't he was pushed around by the Eagles.

Fins Up - Bradley Chubb

  • 2 sacks, a forced fumble (that may have been forced by Jaelen Phillips, hard to tell but still!), and 7 pressures against Jordan Mailata? Arrow is absolutely trending up for Bradley Chubb whose 4 sacks are now tied for the team lead with Zach Sieler and Andrew Van Ginkel.
Fins Down - Kader Kohou
  • I love Kader Kohuo and there is no doubt that he is a good player, but man does he not belong on the outside. We've seen Kader matched up twice against elite receivers and each time Kader's lack of ball skills and physicality at the catch point weren't up to par which isn't entirely his fault since he is a better nickel player.
Fins Up - Jalen Ramsey
  • I haven't really addressed the Ramsey injury in depth but it is amazing how quick he has been able to come back. Ramsey could potentially see the field this weekend against the Patriots and at worst he should be back for the Kansas City game in Germany.
Fins Down - Danny Crossman
  • Stop me if you've heard this one before, the Dolphins' special teams stink and they did against outside of one impressive punt from Jake Bailey. The year is 2023 and the Eagles ran a kick off back 38 yards to set up great field position? Ugh.
Fins Up - Cedric Wilson and Chase Claypool
  • We have to give some love to Miami's two big receivers as both made big plays happens for separate reasons. Cedric Wilson made a great toe tap catch on the sideline on 3rd and 18 and Chase Claypool blocked his you know what off on the nice Raheem Mostert run in the 2nd half. I am excited to see how his role grows in the offense.
Fins Down but also Fins Up? - Injuries
  • Miami went into this game banged up and came out even more banged up. Xavien Howard and Connor Williams both missed the Eagles games with groin injuries and now Jevon Holland is in concussion protocol and will almost certainly miss this weeks game against the Patriots and Isaiah Wynn is out for at least a couple of weeks with a quad injury. The good news is you should be getting Jalen Ramsey back this week, X said he was close to playing, and Connor Williams has to come back soon right? Not to mention we are a week away from Terron Armstead returning (who looked great pre-game) and two weeks away from De'Von Achane returning. This team is about to get healthy, they just need to actually stay healthy.
